Volleyball: Meridian at Lynden
7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, Lynden High School

This will be a fun one. Meridian (8-1, 6-1 Northwest Conference) will go on the road at Lynden (8-1, 7-0 NWC) in a match between two of the four teams in the league that have just one loss.

Lynden currently shares the league lead with Burlington-Edison (9-0, 7-0 NWC), as of Monday, Oct. 2, as the only two teams that are undefeated in league games.

Meridian has won 24-of-32 sets so far this season, sweeping four teams through nine matches. Lynden has won 26-of-30 sets, with seven sweeps in as many matches.

Both of these teams will be in contention for the NWC title later in the season, even though they will be in separate postseason brackets (Lynden is Class 2A, Meridian is 1A).

WWU: Men's basketball Blue-White Scrimmage
1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, Carver Gym

This will be the first look at the 2023–24 Western Washington University men's basketball team.

The Vikings are returning 10 players from last year's team that finished 15-13 overall (8-10 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) and narrowly missed the postseason.

Western will have three true freshmen on the roster in Mathew Storms (Sehome High School), Carter Korab (Jackson High School) and Grant Kepley (Sehome High School). Louis Grante-Halliday is the team's fourth new freshman, who redshirted last season at Seattle University.

Tijan Saine and Jordan Tate are both redshirt freshmen who were with the team a season ago.

Recreation: Trails to Taps Relay
9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, various locations

In an effort to best summarize this event, I will direct you to the biggest text on the Trails to Taps Relay website: “You and your friends teaming up to run from brewery to brewery with a party at the end. What isn’t great about that?”

There you go. What else do you need to know? A few things, I suppose. The event includes eight stops at local breweries and cideries, with 35 miles of running legs in between for teams of four to eight people.

While many other recent running events around Bellingham have been open to all ages and skill levels, Trails to Taps is only open to those 21 and older and runners who can complete a mile between seven and 14 minutes.
