Whatcom County high school seniors, your graduation is quickly approaching. Whatever your next step may be, you’re the newest batch of adults being released out into the world, and Cascadia Daily News wants to hear your voice, thoughts and opinions.

We are hosting an essay contest for graduating high school seniors. The winner will be selected by CDN staff, and the essay will be included in the June 7 graduation pullout tab. Second- and third-place essays will be published on our website.

We are looking for an original 500-word personal essay (no ChatGPT essays, please). In your writing, please answer one of the three prompts below:

• What does resilience mean to you?
• What did you learn about yourself, your school and society through the COVID-19 pandemic?
• What is one thing Whatcom County needs?

Please submit essays by noon on Friday, April 28, to haileyhoffman@cascadiadaily.com. Include “Graduate essay submission” in the subject line and your name, school, age and pronouns in the body of the email. Reach out to the same email address with any questions.

Essays will be copy-edited prior to publication.
