Police search for gunman after shooting downtown on Saturday

One victim shot; recovering from non-life-threatening wound

Bellingham Police are searching for the suspect of a shooting on Railroad Avenue early Saturday morning that left one person with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound on their leg.

Police responded to a shots-fired call in the 1200 block of Railroad Avenue at 1:49 a.m., where a fight involving 30 or more people was reported near Jimmy John’s, Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy said in an email to Cascadia Daily News.

After a gunshot rang out, a vehicle was seen speeding off toward East Chestnut Street. A couple minutes later, a second shot was heard coming from a passing car on East Holly Street.

Less than 30 minutes later, officers were dispatched to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Emergency Department for a patient with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

“This person was evidently shot in the leg in the downtown area,” Murphy said. “Few further details are available at this time.”

Police are still searching for the suspect as of Monday afternoon. If anyone has any information or video from the fight, they are encouraged to contact Bellingham Police at cob.org/tips or 360-778-8611.
