The Blaine Police Department arrested a juvenile male early this morning for allegedly making threats against Blaine schools last week.

Blaine School District’s main campuses went into lockdown for two hours May 25 after a student received a threatening message from an unknown source.

According to a press release, the Blaine Police Department was notified yesterday of additional threatening text messages sent to three minors through the app TextNow.

Early this morning, the police were notified of another threatening text. Officer Jon Landis spoke to the alleged victim of the message, noting “inconsistencies” in his stories, the press release said. The boy, who was then determined to be the suspect, said he sent the text messages as a “prank.”

Landis arrested the suspect at 1:22 a.m., booking him into the Whatcom County Detention Center.

Blaine schools were closed Thursday and Friday following the incident. Students will return on Tuesday after the holiday weekend.

Superintendent Dr. Christopher Granger wrote in a Saturday press release that the schools will focus on the “emotions surrounding the lockdown itself.”

“We are preparing to welcome staff and students back to school on Tuesday, and are thankful the threats are no longer a looming concern,” Granger said.
