Ski to Sea’s return is almost here.

Registration for the race has been ongoing with the deadline right around the corner.

Teams wanting to participate in the race have until 5 p.m. May 25 to register. Space is limited to 500 teams and as of May 13, 355 were registered for a total of 2,560 participants.

After a quick start to registration early on, race director Anna Rankin said organizers don’t anticipate getting many more teams to sign up before the deadline.

“I am guessing the 355 we have now is what we are going to have on race day,” Rankin said. “The pandemic could have a lot to do with it and also, it is hard to get a team together after a two-year hiatus.”

Ski to Sea is no exception to how much inflation has hit all parts of the world. With that in mind, Rankin was hoping for around 400 teams but said she’s happy to see so many people showing up.

The cyclocross leg of the race will have a new course this year and a pre-ride of the course will take place from 1-4 p.m. May 28. A mandatory pre-race meeting for all participants of the cyclocross leg will happen at 11 a.m. on race day. Organizers are waiting on final permits for the course and detailed instructions of it are not available to prevent riders from practicing prior to the race.

Other final touches are being put on as the big race day approaches, but volunteers are still needed for everything to run smoothly.

A little more than 400 people have signed up to volunteer at this year’s race, but Rankin said 600 are needed to make Ski to Sea happen.
