A 60-year-old man was injured last night after being hit by a vehicle while he was crossing from south to north in the 2400 block of Lakeway Drive near the Yew Street intersection.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at approximately 7:21 p.m. The man was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center where he received treatment for critical injuries.

Lakeway Drive was closed in both directions from east of Yew Street to near Clearbrook Drive because of the accident.

Police said the driver had just passed the intersection of Lakeway Drive and Yew Street and was heading east on Lakeway when he struck the pedestrian.

By the time the driver spotted the man, who was wearing dark clothing and not at a crosswalk, the driver was unable to avoid a collision, police said.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
