THURSDAY, Feb. 10

First part of a two-day meeting.

WWU Environmental Speaker Series, 4:30 p.m., virtual meeting

“Restoring the Iconic Pinto Abalone in the Salish Sea.” A report on the results of student projects focused on restoring the mollusk species.

Meridian School Board, 6 p.m., virtual meeting

Special meeting includes a discussion of Clean Buildings Standard compliance.

Mount Baker School Board, 6 p.m., district office or virtual meeting

Agenda available online. The district will discuss policies regarding the banning of tobacco and nicotine products on campus, and the use of restraint and isolation on students.

Whatcom County Planning Commission, 6:30 p.m., virtual meeting

FRIDAY, Feb. 11

WWU Board of Trustees, 8 a.m., Old Main 340 or virtual meeting

The board will hear updates on the legislative session, the waterfront, the Coast Salish Longhouse and strategic budgeting.

MONDAY, Feb. 14

Incarceration Prevention and Reduction Task Force, 9 a.m.virtual meeting

This group planning for behavioral health services in Whatcom County has posted its agenda and meeting materials online.

TUESDAY, Feb. 15

Whatcom County Council Water Work Session, 10:30 a.m., virtual meeting

The County Council’s agenda for this session includes presentations on a proposed Stewart Mountain acquisition and a salmon recovery plan, among other topics.

Bellingham School Board, 6 p.m., virtual meeting

Agenda with a Zoom link will be available online before the meeting.

WEDNESDAY, Feb. 16

Meridian School Board, 7 p.m., Meridian High School (enter by bus loop) 

Agenda and link to virtual meeting will be posted in advance.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMENT

Ferndale skatepark. Deadline: Feb. 11

The city of Ferndale is taking suggestions on the design of a new skatepark for BMX bicyclists, scooters and skateboarders. Metalworks Skatepark will be built this year off 2nd Avenue near Pioneer Park.

Ferndale parks. Deadline: Feb. 28

The city of Ferndale has an online survey to take input on its slate of parks activities for this summer.

Waterfront cleanup. Deadline: March 1

The engineering design report for cleanup of the RG Haley site on the Bellingham waterfront is available for public review and comment.

Climate Action Fund. Deadline: Spring 2022

Bellingham city officials seek feedback on a proposed property tax to fund carbon reduction and climate change adaption projects.

Jail planning. Deadline: Late 2022

The Whatcom County Justice Project’s Stakeholder Advisory Committee is accepting comments on a new jail and associated behavioral health services as long as the committee continues to meet, at SAC@co.whatcom.wa.us.
