Prep golf preview: Meridian’s Daniel Blankenburg

Blankenburg is the reigning 1A boys state champion

By Nick Zeller-Singh Sports Reporter

Meridian’s Daniel Blankenburg first picked up a golf club at the age of 2 and has played competitively in tournaments since he was 8 years old.

“With my dad working in the business, it has always been about golf,” Blankenburg said. “I did the PGA Junior League and a couple of national championships in 2018 and 2019.”

Blankenburg is the defending 1A state champion, and is now hoping to go back-to-back his senior year. He placed seventh as a sophomore in 2023. He is hoping to lead the Trojans to a team state title this year as well.

“I really want to help our teammates get better and win a team state championship,” Blankenburg said. “We have the best team we have ever had. I want to make myself better and help them reach their potential.”

Blankenburg believes he will be competing with a very talented roster because his father, Rick Blankenburg, is the head coach and several of his teammates are experienced at the varsity level.

Blankenburg will be headlining the experienced roster with his high work ethic, self-sufficiency and confidence. Once the spring golf season ends and Blankenburg graduates, he will continue his golfing career at Western Washington University.

“It is a great group of guys and I am ready to get after it and be part of that program,” Blankenburg said.
