Eva Ekdahl began playing tennis for fun in first grade with her twin sister, Elsa, at the Bellingham Tennis Club. More than a decade later, the now-senior at Sehome has developed into an all-conference tennis player.
“It feels good to see my progress and being rewarded for what I have worked so hard for,” Ekdahl said. “I have seen improvements with my consistency, strategy and my mindset.”
Ekdahl enters this season as one of the top singles players for the Mariners. She enjoys playing singles because it has helped her build a strong mindset and get through tough challenges.
She also enjoys playing tennis because it has been a positive outlet for her and proven to be a key tool to keep her busy and active after school. As a senior, Ekdahl will be stepping into a leadership role for the Mariners.
“It is hard to see people go, but it is also great to see the new girls come in and show them about being positive, and inspiring them to work hard and do their best,” Ekdahl said. “I really love being close with my team and supporting them in their matches.”
Last season, Sehome finished second in the conference with a 9-1 record. Ekdahl hopes her squad can win a league title and she can compete in the 2A state tournament.
“I want to stay strong with my team and do well,” Ekdahl said. “I am also looking to maybe play club tennis in college.”
