On March 1, Naches Valley was eight minutes away from upsetting Lynden Christian in the regional round. However, the Rangers blew a 16-point lead they held going into the fourth quarter, losing by three points to the Lyncs. Naches Valley full-court pressure caused the Lyncs to create several turnovers and tough contested shots.
Before Naches Valley lost, Nooksack Valley’s offense led the Pioneers to a victory in the regional round. Nooksack Valley had one of its best shooting performances in the season, including five 3-pointers in the first quarter. The winner of the game will face Bellevue Christian in the quarterfinals while the loser is eliminated.
Naches Valley player to watch: Senior forward Maddy Jewett
Jewett is finishing her high school career as the leading female scorer in Naches Valley history, tallying more than 1,000 points in four seasons. Jewett helped the Rangers take an early lead against the Lyncs and kept them afloat with 28 points.
Nooksack Valley player to watch: Junior guard Payton Bartl
Bartl is one of the most efficient shooters in Whatcom County during the postseason, including shooting more than 72% from the free throw line. Bartl was also the leading scorer in the victory on March 1, scoring 25 points with a handful of 3-pointers.
