The interim superintendent of La Conner School District will stay on in the role permanently, the school board decided Monday, Jan. 13.

Dave Cram began as La Conner’s deputy superintendent of finance, human resources and operations in March 2023 and moved into the interim superintendent role in May 2024.

Cram led the district out of a challenging financial situation in 2024, after the district was placed in binding conditions with the state in summer 2023. La Conner’s financial challenges were due to enrollment challenges and some financial mismanagement in the 2022-23 year, Cram told CDN in summer 2024.

“Over the past nine months, Dave has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, leadership, communication skills, and sound business judgment, all of which are critical qualities for this role,” La Conner School Board wrote in a statement to the community. “His work has had a meaningful and positive impact on our students, staff, and community partners.”

The district was released from binding conditions in November, after meeting the conditions set out by the Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and making “substantial progress” in improving its financial condition.
