Skagit Valley Family YMCA will receive almost $900,000 in funding over the next three years to help expand programs for low-income youth aged 5–17.
The funding, part of a statewide initiative and announced in a Thursday, Jan. 16 news release, is being awarded by the Seattle-based Ballmer Group, co-founded by Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer.
“I am grateful to the Ballmer Group for their investment in Washington’s underserved youth,” Skagit Valley Family YMCA CEO Dean Snider said in the news release. “I am proud of my Washington Y Alliance colleagues for their collaborative effort to make this investment possible, and look forward to putting these funds towards growing program opportunities for Skagit youth.”
Snider said the YMCA offers diverse and inclusive programs designed to foster personal growth, academic success and social-emotional development.
Skagit Valley’s funding is part of a three-year, $20 million partnership between Ballmer Group and the Washington State Alliance of YMCAs, which includes 14 YMCA associations. The YMCA of Snohomish County will receive more than $2 million annually for the next three years.
