Man arrested in Custer for homicide and assault on Jan. 11

One dead, two injured in domestic disturbance and altercation

By Julia Tellman Local News Reporter

On the night of Saturday, Jan. 11, law enforcement officers from multiple agencies responded to a house on Valley View Road in Custer after receiving reports of a physical domestic disturbance and shots fired.

On Monday, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office shared a report of the incident. Deputies entered the home and found Angel Rodriguez, 52, deceased with multiple gunshot wounds. According to the agency’s preliminary investigation, an argument between Rodriguez and another man, both of whom were reportedly intoxicated, had escalated to physical violence.

The suspect was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph for examination, then booked into Whatcom County Jail. The investigation also revealed probable cause for additional charges of domestic violence assault against two other people who were at the scene of the altercation. The victims of the assault were treated by medical professionals.

The case is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
