The Mount Vernon Police and Fire departments are investigating a blaze that left one person dead at a trailer park on Wednesday evening.

First responders were dispatched to a report of a fire in the 500 block of Mobile Drive around 7:10 p.m. on Jan. 8, Lt. Dave Shackleton said. On arrival, they found a trailer with an active fire inside.

One victim was found in the back of the trailer after fire crews were able to enter, Shackleton said.

Skagit County Coroner will determine the victim’s cause and manner of death, Shackleton said. The victim has not been identified.

Police detectives processed the scene on Jan. 9 and have been joined by the Fire Marshal from MVFD to investigate the cause of the fire.

Shackleton encouraged anyone who witnessed the incident to call the 24-hour dispatch line at 360-428-3211 or the Mount Vernon Police Department at 360-336-6271.
