A pending criminal charge against a Lynden City Council member was dismissed this week by a Whatcom County Superior Court judge.

Gary Vis, Position 3 council member, was charged in January 2024 for second-degree assault of a family member. This week, the charge was dismissed due to insufficient evidence, Prosecuting Attorney Eric Richey said.

Richey said the order to dismiss stated that Vis “complied with requirements of him to receive a dismissal.”

Vis said in an email that he is “blessed to live in the Lynden community I call home, but as it has been since the beginning, this remains a private family matter.”
