JESSE’S PICKS
Tara Chugh and Carrie Jennings
8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14
Aslan Depot, 1322 N. State St.
Tara Chugh and Carrie Jennings are a pair of Northwest singer-songwriters who are both making waves in their own right, but also frequently team up, each sharing their own songs and accompanying the other. For their winter tour, Chugh on vocals and keyboard and Jennings on vocals and flugelhorn are joined by a cellist and a guitarist to create a unique blend with elements of pop, folk and jazz. They’re playing Aslan Depot on Friday, Feb. 14.
Valentine’s Day Cover Show
Feb. 14–15
Make.Shift Art Space, 306 Flora St.
I will never miss a chance to plug the Make.Shift covers shows, which feature a bunch of impromptu bands playing short sets in tribute to some of their favorite groups. The selection leans toward punk and alt-rock but there are some wild cards this year (Daft Punk!). The February edition has traditionally had an anti-romantic theme and a no-PDA rule. The shows take place over two nights, Feb. 14 and 15, and have the added benefit of being a benefit for the organization.
Matt Dusk
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15
Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St.
It’s the day after Valentine’s Day, but my pick for the most elegant date night concert of the week has to be crooner Matt Dusk, performing the music of Tony Bennett at the Mount Baker Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 15. What more can I say? Get dressed up for this one, maybe get a nice dinner before the show, make it classy.
Diyet & The Love Soldiers
7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16
Lincoln Theatre, 712 S. 1st St., Mount Vernon
Diyet & The Love Soldiers are coming to the Lincoln Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 16 all the way from Canada’s Yukon territory. Their sound incorporates rock, folk, country and Indigenous music, and some of the lyrics are in Diyet’s native language of Southern Tutchone. When you put all that together, it’s a remarkable and unpredictable fusion, which has taken them all over the world to perform.
