JESSE’S PICKS

Sylvania Moons, Iji, The Lentils, Bellflower
Wednesday, Oct. 9, Karate Church, 519 E. Maple St.

On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Karate Church hosts a high-quality four-band bill of indie rock. Locals Sylvania Moons are a new-ish project made up of a bunch of scene veterans. Iji are from Los Angeles but have Northwest roots, and their new album features guest appearances from a couple members of Big Thief. Seattle’s The Lentils and Bellingham’s Bellflower round out the bill.

Steeplechase
7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, Littlefield Celtic Center, 1124 Cleveland Ave., Mount Vernon

Steeplechase are a new Celtic group featuring a couple of the best local players (Zach Bauman, Sam Vogt, David Lofgren) plus superb Seattle flutist Hanz Ararki. They made a stealth debut at the Bellingham Celtic Festival but are now doing their first official concert with a show at the Littlefield Celtic Center on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Pacific Twang
5:30–9:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, The Old Edison, 5829 Cains Court, Bow

I don’t often get around to writing about the live music at the Old Edison, maybe just because it seems like their dedicated Sunday dancers already know what they need to know. Still, we shouldn’t take it for granted. If you’ve never been, Pacific Twang’s smooth blend of classic country and swamp rock would be a perfect introduction to the Sunday evening scene.
