A 40-year-old woman has been arrested on probable cause of attempted murder and second-degree assault after she allegedly stabbed a family member last week.

Bellingham police were called to a residence on Donovan Avenue around 12:48 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 after the suspect had stabbed the adult victim, Bellingham Police public information officer Megan Peters said in an email. The victim was able to leave the residence and get help from a neighbor.

The suspect then barricaded herself in a room with the knife and self-harmed, Peters said. BPD was able to enter the room and remove the knife from the suspect. First responders then rendered aid.

The suspect and the victim were transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment of their injuries, Peters said.

The suspect was then released and transported to Whatcom County Jail on Sunday, Sept. 15. She remains incarcerated on a $500,000 appearance bond.

Her preliminary appearance was set for Monday, Sept. 16.
