WECU/CDN Game of the Week: Mount Vernon at Burlington-Edison

7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, Burlington-Edison High School

Mount Vernon record: 0-2

Burlington-Edison record: 0-2

Final prediction: Burlington-Edison 24-14

Burlington-Edison took a 30-10 loss to Squalicum two weeks ago. The Tigers failed to capitalize on early momentum when the offense turned the ball over on its first possession, which led to a Storm touchdown. Afterward, the Tigers struggled to find any rhythm until it was too late.

Mount Vernon was in a similar situation against Arlington, losing 47-13. Arlington scored 44 of its points in the first half while the Bulldogs scored their 13 points in the fourth quarter.

When these two teams matched up last year, the Bulldogs won 34-10. However, Mount Vernon is a much younger squad this season looking forward toward a brighter future in a year or two.

Mount Vernon player to watch: QB Kaiden Anderson, junior

Anderson is learning the ropes as the starting quarterback. In his first drive against Alington, he threw a deep pass downfield that was intercepted. Afterward, he helped the Bulldogs march several times in a no-huddle spread offense. Last season, Anderson threw for 108 yards and a touchdown in his varsity debut.

Burlington-Edison player to watch: RB/DB Jackson Granger, senior

The offense was not able to produce against Squalicum because of several penalties. However, Jackson Granger kept the chains moving and scored a 7-yard touchdown run against Squalicum. Granger also played a big role in limiting the Storm’s passing attack.
