Sehome’s Sydney Harri is an incoming senior who helped the Mariners win the 2A girls state cross country titles in 2022 and 2023. Harri began running in middle school but focused on cross country as a freshman.

“My parents asked me if I wanted to try cross country and I was hesitant at first,” Harri said. “After that first day, I knew I wanted to do this. I loved the team and how everyone was nice and [I] connected with them.”

Harri also loves spending time with her teammates while running and during her free time in and out of school.

Harri believes her development, which led to a sixth-place finish in the 2023 state race in 19:07.1, has come from the Sehome coaches and running environment in Bellingham. Her favorite run is Chuckanut Mountain.

As Harri enters her senior year, she hopes to help the Mariners secure another state title and enjoy some fun races before heading to college.

“I am looking forward to enjoying this season and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and spending time with friends,” Harri said.

Harri has not decided on a college yet but wants to continue to compete at the next level. She says cross country has helped her become resilient, work harder and be a better leader and teammate.

In Harri’s free time, she enjoys drawing and painting.
