Western Washington University women’s soccer saw its season come to an end with a 1-0 defeat to Cal Poly Pomona in the second round of the NCAA Division II championships Saturday, Nov. 23 in Pomona, California.
It was a very quiet game for the Vikings’ offense as they only had two shots on goal. Kyrsten McGuffey’s shot in the 31st minute and Claire Potter’s in the 62nd minute both rolled for the easy save.
Top-seeded Cal Poly Pomona (18-1-2) struggled to find a quality shot on net until the final seconds of the first half when a shot sailed wide left. Yet, in the 48th minute, Cal Poly Pomona’ Marissa Salazar had a solid chance on net but missed. About 30 seconds later, her second shot rolled into the net for the lone goal.
The fifth-seeded Vikings failed to find the equalizer in the final minutes. Western ends its season with a 14-4-5 overall record.
