Bellingham could be battered once again by gusty winds Thursday night into Friday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 to 10 a.m. Friday for western Whatcom County. Gusts up to 45 mph are expected.

Windy weather could last throughout the day on Friday in Bellingham as well as other parts of the state, especially those living on the Pacific Coast, according to the NWS.

The bluster comes after strong winds battered trees and downed power lines across western Washington overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

Residents in Sudden Valley are cleaning up after trees fell into homes and condos. At least 16 homes were damaged and residents of six homes had to find shelter elsewhere because of the damage.

South Whatcom Fire Authority posted on social media Thursday it’s working with the Sudden Valley Community Association and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management to assess community needs and options to help residents.

“As we look back at Tuesday night, we are still trying to comprehend the damage done to our community,” according to the post. “The amount of clean-up needed is difficult to grasp.”

Lake Whatcom Drive between Camp Firwood and 1670 Lake Whatcom Blvd remains closed and will likely be closed for multiple days as Whatcom County public work crews remove trees and downed power lines.

“Please do not drive around ‘road closed’ signs,” Whatcom County Public Works posted on X, formerly Twitter, Thursday. “We’ve gotten calls about folks going around them because the roads ‘look passable.’ If the sign is present, the road is closed!”

More than 247,000 Puget Sound Energy customers were without power as of Thursday Nov. 21 at 2:20 p.m. In parts of King County, PSE is expecting to get power restored by noon on Saturday. Power is expected to be restored to PSE customers in Whatcom and Skagit counties by 6 p.m. on Friday.

While Thursday offered a small break from the rain, precipitation will return on and off throughout the weekend.
