Sehome girls and boys swept the 2A state cross country meet for the second straight year — the girls won their fourth straight title, the boys their second straight — Saturday, Nov. 9 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
2A girls
Sehome defended its state title by finishing first with 40 points, led by sophomore Lil Desler’s individual victory in 18:08.9. Sloane Clines finished fifth in 18:45.9, Sydney Harri was ninth in 19:05.8, Samantha Knipp placed 12th in 19:15.5, Kjirsten Ludeman came in 20th in 19:34.9, Abby Rusk was 30th in 19:49.7 and Alivia Hernandez placed 37th in 20:15.7.
Anacortes finished second in the state with 71 points. Cate Griggs placed fifth in 18:59.1; Ashley Becerra Guzman was eighth in 19:04.2; Lucy Lemrick came in 22nd in 19:38.4; Megan Kennedy placed 25th in 19:42.3; Riley Boxx was 26th in 19:45; Chloe Hernandez finished 50th in 20:34.7 and Dylan Willingham placed 85th in 21:31.7.
Individual finishers included Lynden’s Sloan Dickson, who placed second in 18:19.9; Squalicum’s Sandra Voigt was 16th in 19:20.6; Bellingham’s Zaya Smith came in 19th in 19:31.5; Bellingham’s Nora Seltz placed 23rd in 19:39.3; Bellingham’s Nora Alexander was 27th in 19:47.8 and Burlington-Edison’s Jocelyn Serrano was 56th in 20:39.7.
2A Boys
The Sehome boys lived up to the expectations of being ranked first in the state and 28th in the nation after winning their second consecutive title with 34 points. Bainbridge was second with 79 points.
Sehome’s Nick Gargano placed second in 15:29.2; Skyler Gillham was fourth in 15:33.6; Heath Terry came in 12th in 16:07.3; Jackson Rogers finished 13th in 16:03.7; Dylan Hill placed 14th in 16:07.8; Sabastian Vahid finished 16th in 16:09.3 and Judson Berreth came in 19th in 16:11.5.
Bellingham finished fourth as a team with 105 points. Baynes Machinski was seventh in 15:59.6; Berkeley Pass finished 18th in 16:11; Porter Chesbrough was 30th in 16:39; Jack Beglin placed 31st in 16:40; Tarver May finished 53rd in 16:57.2; Alden Melanson came in 92nd in 17:29.8 and Noah Brenton was 102nd in 17:37.2.
Anacortes Dylan Rowell won the individual title in 15:26.9 seconds and teammate Maverick Ball finished 87th in 17:23.1. Squalicum’s Jonathan Piper placed 37th in 16:44.9, and teammate Taylor Rush came in 49th in 16:52
1A girls
Meridian was the only full local team represented at the 1A meet, placing sixth with 153 points. Cedar Park Christian won with 102 points.
Meridian’s Logan Ignacio placed second in 18:53.6. Teammate Adelle Ashmore finished 35th in 20:40.5; Aunaleisa Ross was 56th in 21:28.8; Maddy Swanson came in 59th in 21:38; Allie Gordley wound up 60th in 21:38.6; Ava Hansen placed 65th in 21:42.9 and Cadence Scellick was 94th in 22:27.8.
Nooksack Valley’s Zoe Furtado finished 63rd in 21:40.8, and Lynden Christian’s Laila Mellema was 83rd in 21:59.4.
3A girls
No local teams placed in the 3A girls meet, but a few runners did compete at state. Mount Vernon’s Leila Stampanoni finished 23rd in 18:51.3 seconds and Ferndale’s Katie Manly was 59th in 20:00.
1A boys
Meridian boys took home a third-place trophy with 122 points, while Cedar Park Christian won with 49 and Bush finished second with 62 points.
Meridian’s Reuben Tevelde finished sixth in 16:101 seconds; Nolan Jacoby was 19th in 16:36.7; Asher Todd placed 35th in 16:55.7; Canyon James came in 47th in 17:15.5; Kellen Todd finished 69th in 17:37.3; River Durbin was 86th in 17:55.6 and Carson Siadal wound up 105th in 18:13.
Lynden Christian’s Nickolas Luce came in 15th in 16:33.2 and teammate Larson Rische finished 98th in 18:09.2.
3A boys
No 3A boys teams placed at state this season. Mount Vernon’s Nicholas Hoyer finished 136th in 17:26.1.
