Roundup: Girls soccer, volleyball teams inch closer to state berths

District tournaments will continue until Saturday, Nov. 9

Lynden Christian girls soccer captured its district championship, Lynden girls soccer advanced to its district title game, and Lynden Christian and Meridian volleyball will face off for the district crown as tourneys played out across Whatcom County Saturday, Nov. 2

1A girls soccer

Lynden Christian defeated Blaine 1-0 for the district title Saturday at Blaine High School. The Lyncs secured a spot in the District 1/2 crossover tourney Saturday, Nov. 9.

Nooksack Valley defeated Meridian 2-1 in the consolation second round. The Pioneers will play the Borderites for the district’s final spot in the crossover matchup at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Blaine High School.

2A girls soccer

Lynden keeps its undefeated streak alive and will head to the 2A District 1 championship game after defeating Archbishop Murphy 2-0 at Civic Stadium.

The Lions will face Sehome at Civic Stadium for the title Nov. 5 at Civic Stadium. The Mariners defeated Burlington-Edison 2-0 in their semifinal matchup. 

In the consolation first round, Squalicum bounced back and defeated Marysville-Pilchuck 4-0 in the early morning match at Civic Stadium. The Storm will play Burlington-Edison at 4 p.m. Nov. 5 at the same site.

Bellingham edged Anacortes 5-4 in a scoring duel. The Bayhawks will play Archbishop Murphy at 8 p.m. Nov. 5 at Civic Stadium.

1A volleyball

Lynden Christian and Meridian will face off for the district title at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at Meridian High School. The Lyncs beat Nooksack Valley 3-1 in the semifinals, while Meridian defeated Blaine 3-0. 

2A volleyball

Bellingham was eliminated in a 3-1 loss to Marysville-Pilchuck in a play-in game.


Sehome swept Lakewood 3-0 in its opening-round matchup and will face Archbishop Murphy in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4 at Meridian High School.

Lynden won in five sets against Anacortes and will face Burlington-Edison in the other semifinal matchup at 5 p.m. Nov. 4 at Meridian. The Tigers swept Squalicum in three sets to make the semifinals.
