Border Patrol seizes $1.1M worth of cocaine in Lynden

Two backpacks contained 78 pounds of cocaine

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents seized 78 pounds of cocaine with an estimated value of $1.1 million near the border in Lynden Thursday, Dec. 19, a Monday, Dec. 23 news release stated.

Two Border Patrol agents discovered the cocaine in two black backpacks lying on the ground in a wooded area. Inside were 30 brick-like packages, which were later tested and determined to be cocaine.

“Thanks to the vigilance of Blaine Sector Border Patrol agents, these dangerous narcotics were prevented from reaching our communities,” Chief Patrol Agent Rosario “Pete” Vasquez said in the release. “Our agents work tirelessly day in and day out to protect this nation, and this seizure highlights that crucial commitment.”

The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
