WECU/CDN Game of the Week: Ferndale at Lynden
When: 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20
Ferndale record: 2-2
Lynden record: 5-0
Final prediction: Lynden 70-35
The Lynden girls basketball team looks very capable of becoming repeat 2A state champions this winter after a dominant start. The Lions have a point differential average of 40.3 points against their opponents this season and are allowing only 24 points against them per game.
After a 2-2 start to the season, the Golden Eagles have struggled to capture a victory and score more than 26 points. Ferndale is looking to remain in the middle of the conference standings with a handful of tough games coming up as well.
Ferndale player to watch: Guard Brooklyn Larrabee, sophomore
Lynden’s top players must be shut down by Ferndale’s top defensive players. Larrabee, who averages more than five steals per game this season, will need to handle the Lion offense if Ferndale wants to pull off an upset. She also contributes on offense, scoring four points last game against Stanwood.
Lynden player to watch: Guard Finley Parcher, sophomore
This season, Parcher averages 17 points, five assists and six steals. Her ability to read her opponents and steal the ball creates opportunities for her and her teammates to score. She proved to be one of the top players in the conference by scoring 18 points in a 64-21 victory against Squalicum.
