CDN continues partnership with WECU for girls basketball this winter

The initiative will highlight seven high school games

By Nick Zeller-Singh Sports Reporter

CDN is continuing its partnership with local credit union WECU to feature seven winter high school girls basketball games in a Game of the Week format. WECU organizes spirit competitions, a spin wheel and a pop-up treat table.

The partnership started in August with boys football games.

Starting next week, CDN will provide print and visual coverage of the WECU/CDN Game of the Week, including a preview, game coverage and social media posts. The games will be played between schools in Whatcom and Skagit counties.

It’s a fun, participatory program that includes donations by WECU to student body associations for schools that win student-section spirit competitions — a benefit to student activities beyond just athletics.

The seven games selected are listed below:

Dec. 13 – Mount Vernon at Anacortes

Dec. 20 – Ferndale at Lynden

Jan. 13 – Meridian at Nooksack Valley

Jan. 24 – Nooksack Valley at Lynden Christian

Jan. 28 – Squalicum at Bellingham

Jan. 31 – Sedro-Woolley at Burlington-Edison

Feb. 5 – Sehome at Squalicum
