Recalled SunFed Produce cucumbers have been linked to salmonella outbreaks across the country, including one confirmed case in Whatcom County.
Whatcom County Health and Community Services issued an alert this morning about the outbreak and the recall, recommending community members discard cucumbers with “SunFed Mexico” stickers or “any whole fresh American cucumbers purchased during the recall period if the source is unknown.” The recalled cucumbers were sold between Oct. 12 and Nov. 26.
There are 68 confirmed cases of salmonella linked to these cucumbers in 19 states, including five in Washington.
Businesses should not serve or sell recalled cucumbers, wash surfaces that come in contact with those cucumbers, and should notify customers who purchased recalled cucumbers if they can, according to the health department news release.
People should also wash surfaces and utensils that come into contact with recalled cucumbers, and contact their doctor if they have any severe Salmonella symptoms, which can include: diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F; diarrhea for more than three days that is not improving; bloody diarrhea; vomiting to the point a person cannot keep liquids down; and signs of dehydration, which can include not peeing much, dry mouth and throat and feeling dizzy when standing up.
