Despite not making it to state last season as an individual or team, junior Dakota Hill knows the Meridian girls bowling team will be a force to be reckoned with this season.
“We have already had two 700 games and the season just started,” Hill said. “We will kick it out of the ballpark at districts and have no doubt that we won’t make it to state as a team.”
Hill nearly missed bowling at state, being listed as an alternate during her sophomore season. However, Hill only began bowling her freshman year.
“My oldest sister (Emma) did bowling when the program started at Meridian and my dad became the coach and took over,” Hill said. “Once I got into high school, I started my freshman year and I have bowled ever since.”
Hill had her best performance freshman year, bowling a 247, and hopes to break her personal record this season.
“You tend to grow more in bowling than in other sports,” Hill said. “It is cool to see how far you have gone and other accomplishments you get.”
Hill enjoys bowling at Meridian because it is a unique atmosphere compared to other sports provided at the school.
“People just see it as bowling but it is so much more than that,” Hill said. “It is an individual sport but also a team sport but different because you rely on everyone else.”
Hill and her teammates will need to rely on each other if they want to meet their goal of reaching the 1A state bowling championships.
“I am looking forward to where districts take us,” Hill said. “We are a force to be reckoned with.”
