Whatcom County’s health department lifted a swimming advisory on Thursday, Aug. 29 for beaches on the southern end of Boulevard Park, including Taylor Dock.

An advisory was issued Aug. 9 after routine water sampling found elevated bacteria levels. With new samples showing lower levels of fecal bacteria near the dock and along the shoreline, the health department is now giving people the OK to recreate in the water again.

However, the outfall near Bennett Avenue has high levels of fecal bacteria — health officials are still advising swimmers to avoid the beach area near the outfall.

Contact with water contaminated with fecal bacteria can cause gastroenteritis, skin rashes and other illnesses.
