JESSE’S PICKS

North Sound Soul
6–8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, Boulevard Park, 470 Bayview Ave.

Live music in Boulevard Park on a sunny summer evening may be one of the most beautiful music experiences you can find anywhere. We’re truly lucky to have it. The parks department-sponsored series wraps up on Friday, Aug. 23 with North Sound Soul, so walk, bike, float, kayak or sail on over to enjoy it one more time.

Fourth Corner Punk Fest
3–11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, Time and Materials Taphouse, 954 N. State St.

When I profiled Warp Detour a few months ago, one of the things they were proudest of about their band was the way they use their draw as a punk cover band to create a platform for other bands. They’re at it again, organizing Fourth Corner Punk Fest on Saturday, Aug. 24 outside at Time and Materials Taphouse. Other bands in the lineup include Boxcutter PNW, Para Amore (a Paramore tribute), College Radio, Drayton and All Hype. Warp Detour are going to play NOFX’s classic “Punk in Drublic” album in its entirety. In addition to music, the all-ages event includes vendors, flash tattoos and hairstylists.

Reggae Night with Yogoman Burning Band
7–10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, Kulshan Trackside, 298 W. Laurel St.

Years after moving to Texas, local reggae favorite Jordan Rain (aka Yogoman) still makes an annual migration back to the Northwest to play summer shows, either DJing reggae and rocksteady 45s or performing with the Yogoman Burning Band. This summer he’s also celebrating the vinyl rerelease and 20th anniversary of his LP, “9 Jordan Rain Song,” in collaboration with Black Noise Records. On Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Kulshan Trackside stage, he’ll perform both as a DJ and with the whole band for what should be a massive outdoor reggae party.
