UPDATE: Blaine student received text threats that resulted in lockdown

Schools placed in lockdown for hours Wednesday as police investigated

Blaine Schools were placed in lockdown for over two hours Wednesday after a student received a text threat from an unknown source, according to a joint statement put out by the Blaine Police Department and Blaine Schools. The student received additional threats that indicated a person was in the school with a weapon.

Blaine Schools announced on its Facebook page there would be no school Thursday following the hours-long ordeal. A decision about school on Friday will be announced later today.

Students and staff went into lockdown around 2:40 p.m. while multiple local law enforcement agencies responded to the threats. Blaine Police Department announced Blaine Schools were all clear at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday following the 2.5-hour lockdown.

No threat was identified, and no injuries were reported, according to the statement.

Some students were evacuated to the Boys and Girls Club, and the remaining students were moved to the stadium. The reunification process went into the evening, with buses picking up the last remaining students at 7:15 p.m., according to a Blaine Schools Facebook post.

“Despite the chaos and difficulty of this day, we are all incredibly grateful for the partnership between our school district and police department. Most of all we are grateful for the safety of our community’s children,” the joint statement read.
