A woman who attends Western Washington University was hospitalized after she woke up to find another woman stabbing her in the throat and fought off her attacker before fleeing to safety early Wednesday morning, Bellingham Police said.
Police received a call from the victim at about 4:09 a.m. Wednesday. The victim had woken up to the attack by a woman she recently met, according to a police report.
The victim identified the attacker as 21-year-old Johanna Paola Flores Nonog, of Lynwood, who was staying the night at the residence, police said.
The victim fought off Nonog and tried to force Nonog to leave the apartment. Nonog then kicked down the door to the residence before the victim was able to run away and have a neighbor call 911, the report stated.
The victim said Nonog likely stole her wallet, phone and keys before fleeing the scene, according to the report.
Bellingham Police, Western Washington University Police and Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies and K9s were able to locate Nonog in a nearby parking lot and arrest her.
The victim was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and treated for a laceration on her throat, chin, face and hand, the report stated.
Nonog was booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and first-degree robbery.
