Pedestrian dies in Mount Vernon accident Wednesday

Cause under investigation

A pedestrian, whose name has not yet been released, died after he was hit by a car walking along Interstate 5 near Mount Vernon early Wednesday morning.

The 52-year-old man, of Oak Harbor, was walking south on the interstate, near milepost 226, according to a Washington State Patrol release. Joseph Baddour, 44, of Camano Island was driving south when the vehicle struck the pedestrian around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Baddour was uninjured, and the cause of the incident is under investigation.
