COVID-19 testing at the Bellingham Airport testing site ends Wednesday, and is moving to Avero Diagnostics’ Meridian Street location, Whatcom County Health Department announced.
The drive-thru lab is located at 3548 Meridian St., Suite 101, and the site will continue testing by appointment from 12:30–4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and noon to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The change in location was prompted by decreased demand for testing. At its height in January 2021, the airport location tested 5,000 people in a week.
“The Airport community testing site was always intended to be a temporary facility,” Cindy Hollinsworth, communicable disease and epidemiology manager for Whatcom County Health Department, stated in a release.
“With the increased availability of at-home test kits, changes in travel requirements and other options, we’ve seen a significant decrease in the number of people using the community testing site. Avero Diagnostic’s main drive-through lab can serve the current demand for community testing,” she continued.
