A former certified nursing assistant, charged with first-degree attempted murder in the April stabbing of an 87-year-old woman he took care of full-time, was charged by the Nursing Assistant Program for unprofessional conduct, the state Department of Health announced Wednesday.
Joshua John McDonald, 29, allegedly slit the victim’s throat and stabbed the victim in the neck on April 24, court documents state. He then called 911 and stated he had a “psychotic break and stabbed” the victim in the neck, according to court documents.
Police recovered an 8.5-inch kitchen knife with blood on it on the ground outside the residence.
McDonald had been the victim’s full-time caregiver for several years, court documents state. McDonald is currently in custody and faces a jury trial on Sept. 12.
